This week we made some famous Rhode Island foods inspired by a video by Kristen Hampton wherein she ate at the Olneyville N.Y. System restaurant in the aforementioned Rhode Island.
She reviewed their Hot Wieners and Coffee Milk. I found and ordered Autocrat coffee syrup from “the ‘zon.” It was later suggested to me, again by “the ‘zon,” that I also buy the spice mix that is used to make the signature Hot Wiener sauce.
The key ingredients.
I mixed myself a glass of Coffee Milk soon after receiving the coffee syrup. I read the proportions that are shown on the bottle: 2 tablespoons of syrup to 8 ounces of milk. I prepared a larger glass and just eyeballed the measurements. It wasn’t as dark as I was expecting it to be, but it was pretty good.
Subsequently, on pizza day, Dorothy made me some that she prepared to proper proportions. It tasted about the same as my non-measured mixture, telling me that I was close. I prepared myself another glass after we ate the Hot Wieners so as not to confuse my taste buds. When this bottle is empty, I’ll ponder buying another.
